VA Disability β Digestive & Gastrointestinal
VA disability ratings for GERD, IBS, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, hemorrhoids, hernia, and all gastrointestinal conditions connected to military service.
Digestive conditions affect a significant portion of veterans, often caused by operational stress, deployment diet, medication side effects, PTSD-related gut-brain axis disruption, and toxic water exposure. The VA rates digestive conditions based on symptom frequency and severity, weight loss, and hospitalization history. Camp Lejeune contamination cases have driven many GI claims, and PTSD secondary claims for IBS and GERD are increasingly recognized. Documentation of the worst episodes, not just average function, is critical for accurate ratings.
